Share Page and Dashboard Fixes

A round of fixes for playback, captions, folders, and custom domains.

Show release notes

Fixes

  • Playback after comments - Playback resumes when a comment you were replying to disappears.
  • Timestamp links - Timestamp links keep their position while the video is still loading.
  • Transcript search - Searching a transcript jumps to the first result.
  • Captions - Translated captions now include the final cue, and numeric captions are kept in transcripts and embeds.
  • Embed durations - Embed players show hours for long videos.
  • Emoji reactions - Unauthenticated viewers who react with an emoji are prompted to sign in.
  • Link previews - Previews keep a recording's real dimensions.
  • Editor audio - Preview audio is restored after short cuts.
  • Folders - Video durations and edit controls now appear inside folders, adding Caps to a folder no longer creates duplicate shares, and subfolders stay in the same space as their parent.
  • Dashboard counts - Video counts match the videos listed.
  • Analytics dates - Daily analytics labels stay on their UTC date.
  • Custom domains - DNS records always render in setup, the setup dialog no longer jumps to success, and removing a domain keeps it if the removal from the host fails.
  • Google Drive - Rate-limited requests are retried instead of failing.

A Faster, More Reliable Loom Importer

Loom imports now run on a dedicated importer that copies your videos into Cap quickly and finishes processing the first time someone watches.

Features

  • Dedicated importer - Videos are copied straight into Cap storage, and thumbnails and transcripts are prepared when a video is first opened.
  • Resumable large files - Large Loom downloads upload in parts and resume if interrupted.

Fixes

  • Bulk CSV import - One failed batch no longer stops the rest of the import.
  • Stuck imports - Imports that never started or failed part way are recovered and restarted.
  • Long titles - Videos with very long titles now import.

Self-Hosting Sign-In and EU Transcription

New sign-in and region options for self-hosted Cap.

Show release notes

Features

  • Generic OIDC sign-in - Set OIDC_ISSUER, OIDC_CLIENT_ID, and OIDC_CLIENT_SECRET to sign in with any OpenID Connect provider you run. OIDC_NAME labels the button.
  • Reverse-proxy sign-in - Sign in through an authenticating reverse proxy by setting TRUSTED_PROXY_AUTH_HEADER and TRUSTED_PROXY_AUTH_EMAIL.
  • EU transcription - Set ASSEMBLY_BASE_URL to send transcription to AssemblyAI's EU endpoint and keep recordings in the EU.
  • Blocked signup domains - Set CAP_BLOCKED_SIGNUP_DOMAINS to refuse sign-ins from specific domains or addresses, with a friendly notice.

Fixes

  • Public assets - Public assets are now served on self-hosted deployments.
  • Encryption key check - A bad DATABASE_ENCRYPTION_KEY is now caught at startup instead of failing later.

Security Fixes

Another round of hardening across sharing, sign-in, and billing.

Show release notes

Fixes

  • Ownership checks - Folder, space, and organization video actions now verify that you own what you are changing, and adding a Cap to a private space checks you have access to it.
  • Sign-in codes - Email login codes are rate limited, and a code is invalidated after a failed guess.
  • Cross-site requests - Cookie-authenticated writes now require same-site requests.
  • Storage endpoints - Custom S3 endpoints can no longer point at private hosts.
  • Duplicated Caps - Duplicating a Cap can no longer forge its creation date or drop its password.
  • Checkout - Billing endpoints validate prices and quantities before creating a checkout.
  • Notifications - Marking notifications as read is scoped to their recipient.
Web

Concierge Migration for Cap Pro

Cap Pro customers can ask us to move their Loom library for them. Request a concierge migration from the Loom import page and we import your videos into Cap.

Features

  • Concierge migration - Follow the steps on the Loom import page, then track your request from pending to complete.
  • Videos Loom will not serve - We can import those from an MP4 you provide.
Web

Private by Default and Viewer Invites

Organizations can now start every new recording as Private, and owners can invite specific people to watch a private Cap by email.

Features

  • Private default for new recordings - Owners and admins can set new recordings to start Private. It applies to desktop, mobile, web uploads, Loom imports, and the API. Existing recordings keep their visibility.
  • Invite viewers by email - Invite, list, and revoke viewers on any Cap. A signed-in viewer with the invited email can open a private Cap, even from outside your organization's domain.
  • Invited viewers in the share dialog - See who has access at a glance.
Web

Hosted Cap MCP Connector

Cap now has a hosted MCP connector, so AI assistants can look up your recordings without running anything locally. Learn more on the Cap for Agents page.

Features

  • Connect from your assistant - Add Cap as a connector and sign in with OAuth. No tokens to copy around.
  • Read-only recording tools - Assistants can list and read your recordings, and show an optional recording card in chat.
  • Revoke any time - Connector access is scoped and can be revoked.

Fixes

  • Claude and Grok compatibility - The connector now connects cleanly from both.
Web

Edit AI Summaries and Chapters

Cap AI gets you most of the way there, and now you can finish the job. Owners can edit the summary and chapters of any Cap right from the share page.

Features

  • Edit the summary - Rewrite or clear the AI summary from the Summary tab.
  • Edit chapters - Change chapter titles and timestamps, and add or remove chapters. Player markers update to match.
  • Edits are kept - Manual changes are not overwritten when AI results arrive late.
Web

Folder Sorting and List View

Folders now sort the way you expect, with a list view for long names and big libraries.

Features

  • Natural sorting - Numbered folders order correctly, so 2_Intro comes before 10_Setup.
  • Sort control - Sort folders by name (A to Z or Z to A), or by newest or oldest.
  • Grid and list views - Switch to a list layout that gives each folder name the full width.
  • Whole-card links - Click anywhere on a folder card to open it.

Fixes

  • Truncated folder names - Names are no longer cut off at a fixed width on wide screens.
Web

Signed BAAs

Organizations that handle PHI can now purchase a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) themselves, without going through sales.

Features

  • Buy a signed BAA in settings - Add a signed BAA to your organization from Organization Settings. It is billed with your plan and requires an active Cap Pro subscription.
  • Local currency billing - Pricing is available in USD, GBP, and EUR.
Web

HIPAA compliance

Cap is now fully HIPAA compliant. We sign Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with organizations handling PHI, and every vendor in Cap's production infrastructure is covered by a BAA. Learn more on the HIPAA-compliant screen recording page, or view our security posture on the trust portal.

Web

SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001

Cap is now SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified. Reports and live control status are available on the trust portal, and the full story is on the blog.

Web

Live Transcription on the Share Page

Transcripts no longer wait for processing to finish. Instant recordings are now transcribed while they upload, so the share page has a transcript ready the moment it loads.

Show release notes

Features

  • Live transcript while uploading - Viewers who open a share link mid-upload see the transcript appear live as the recording is spoken, then hand off seamlessly to the final version.
  • Instant transcript at load - Landing on a finished Cap shows the transcript immediately instead of a processing spinner.
  • Live captions on the player - Captions are available on the share page player as soon as they exist, without restarting playback.
  • Transcript tab front and center - Landing on the share page right after stopping a recording opens the Transcript tab automatically.
Web

Tighter Access Controls for Shared Caps

A round of hardening across sharing and sign-in.

  • Comments require access - Posting a comment now requires permission to view the Cap it belongs to.
  • Downloads respect sharing - Downloading an organization video requires an explicit share, not just a guessable link.
  • Login codes expire on time - Email login codes now expire after the advertised 10 minutes.
Web

Slack Integration

Cap links now unfurl in Slack. Connect your Slack workspace from organization settings and shared Caps expand into rich previews your team can watch without leaving the conversation.

Features

  • Link unfurls - Pasting a Cap link in Slack shows the title, thumbnail, and an inline player.
  • Simple setup - Install the integration from organization settings with a standard Slack authorization flow.

Improvements

  • Playable previews in more apps - Tools that use Iframely for link previews, such as Notion, now show an inline Cap player for public videos.
Web

Edit Videos by Editing the Transcript

The fastest way to cut a video is now to cut the words. The web editor has a transcript sidebar, and removing text removes the matching footage.

Features

  • Transcript sidebar - The full transcript sits next to the editor timeline, synced word by word with playback.
  • Delete text to cut video - Select words or sentences and remove them, and the cuts appear on the timeline instantly.
  • Filler word cleanup - Filler words are highlighted so you can strip the "ums" and "uhs" in a couple of clicks.
Web

Move Caps in Bulk

Reorganizing your library no longer happens one video at a time. Select multiple Caps and move them together, or transfer an entire organization's content in one step.

Features

  • Bulk move - Select any number of Caps and move them into a space or folder in one action.
  • Move from anywhere - Bulk actions work across your library, shared Caps, and spaces.
  • Organization content transfer - Admins can transfer all of an organization's videos to another organization from the new content management settings page.
